I think I'll need to get more traffic on the site before the chat room takes off. I need to start paying for advertising. Right now I doon't do any advertising or anything.

Look guys I agree abouth the chat I need some advice and I go to chat and no one is ever there. Also I have to say I'm very very impressed with this site. I'm a older musician who plays Progressive rock, but I'm now trying to record some of my long time comps & ideas by multi-tracking my guitars, my wind instruments and then do orchestration on my keyboard workstation. But I too am new to the digital world so your site is incredible.
I will be taking a Midi-Digital recording course come january but for now I have one nagging question. A guitar question. I want to get that long sustaining Prog Sounding lead guitar that Steve Hackett got on the early heavier Genesis stuff, Flower Kings Guitarist also get this lead spound as well. I'm running my electric through DOD TEC4X effects box and a DOD compression pedal to my amp, and I can't seem to produce this effect. I notice you use a Line6 pod? I would really like to also get some advice on my recording setup as well!
I have Multiple Guitars, acoustic & electric, Mandolin, Flute, Bagpipes, Bass an a Better than it Name indicates Casio Workstation Keyboard. I have Echo Gia 20 soundcard & outbox, Music Creator software as well as Reasons on my better computer. I have a studio set up with a Pentium 2 and Windows 98 a 250 Zip drive (for transporting file over to my new computer if I have to use it in mixing.
Any help with the sustained hackett Like sound or advice on my set up would be fantastic.

Please get back to me I can use your help, very very much!!!

I am not sure about the type of sound you are after. Long sustaining lead tones are usually achieved by playing close to a cranked speaker cab. Also different guitar construction has a big effect. A solid body mahogany guitar with a fixed bridge (as well as neck thru neck) delivers the most sustain.

Anyway, I am sure you will come along in the recording process. After a while, everything will seem intuitive. I was confused as hell at first...
