Hey, this poor old kat posted this question a year and a half ago, and nobody gave him the time of day. Probably turned into a skeleton sitting at the keyboard waiting - covered with cobwebs - poor guy.
IMHO - if Old Kat should ever come back, or anybody else want a little advice - newbies to computer recording might do better to start by downloading a free program called "Audacity" - not too hard to find with a google search. I think it's a little more obvious than the ones Old Kat was working with, although I could be wrong. After you get the hang of Audacity, go on and try some other programs. I think maybe the problem for Old Kat was that those programs are really sequencers for assembling synthetic music, not for recording live sound, as I recall from my limited look at them... but somebody who is more familiar with them can clear that up some more.
