Songwriting - Help With Instrumental Rock Song jamesbridges - Aug 06, 2005 - 08:17 AM Post subject: Help With Instrumental Rock Song
Hi. I have written a few simple metal songs, but these are mostly just power chordal stuff with basic scale sequence solos. However, I want to advance a bit and write an instrumental guitar song (it would have prob. 2 guitars, base, and drums, but no vocals), in the style of Satriani/Steve Vai (but without the amazing mind-boggling solo's!) I know some theory and about modes, etc, but I haven't got a clue where to start! Whatever I do, it ends up with repetitive gloomy sounding powerchords that make all my songs sound the same! What is the first thing you would do in writting this kind of music? Would you first pick a scale or mode and do it in a very theory intensive way? I am interrested in knowing people's step by step methods of writting a song (don't worry, I know there's nothing as simple as astep by step guide for songwritting!). Any help would be great!
