I'm new to this forum and just started to learn how to play the guitar a week ago. There so much info to digest and to understand but, I have a question about keys. If a song is written in a certain key, let's say the key of A. That that means that all the chords on the song will be A chords or can it contain any other chords like B, C, D, etc. Can some one please offer a simple explanation.

What you seem to think is incorrect. If a song is in the key of A, thisactually means it is in A major. The notes of A major are:
A I
B ii
C# iii
D IV
E V
F# vi
G# Vii
Any chord with a selection of these notes will fit in the key of A. These chords are a mixture of major and minor. In the above list, I have put a roman numeral next to each note which refers to what number note it is in the scale. If it is a capital (e.g, I, IV, V...) then it means this major chord will fit the key. Therefore, A major, Dmajor, E major and F major chords will all fit the key of A. If it is a lower case lettre, it is minor (e.g, ii, iii, vii). This means that B minor, C# minor, and F# minor chords will all fit in the key of A. Since you are a beginner, ignore the chord from the G#, as it isn't used much.
If you are writting a chord progression, common progressions use just the I, IV and V chords (these can be called the primary triads). In A, these would be A major, D major and E major chords.
