Post subject: Posted an exercise for this month - scale-related of course!  PostPosted: Mar 09, 2004 - 04:54 AM

I skipped February, but managed to get an exercise posted for this month!

This month's exercise is on 4-note-per-string scales. Very few players venture into that territory. But I think such exercises can have a profound impact on your coordination on the fretboard. I think doing exercises covering the whole range of the fretboard helps your hands develop a mind of their own. My personal playing style has grown quite a bit by doing stuff like this. More often than not when I record a solo, I just hit the record button and hope for the best. Usually after a few takes I end up with something I really like. And often, the things I come up with have my hands going all over the fretboard. But they are not planned - I have to transcribe them later! The point is, my playing is becoming more and more unconscious, and I think exercises like this help to that end.

later,

brian
