alright the 3 octave lesson if i were to memorize all those scales and i see where the root is so are they transposeable so i don't start in the key of G and if i were to transpose them i suppose that would mean that the modes would stay in the same pattern just with defferent keys? and are those all the modes i need to know besides applying modes to pentatonics?

The 3 octave scales lesson serves 2 purposes:

1. Get you accustomed to playing throughout the neck
2. Get you accustomed to playing in different keys.

So for that lesson, I simply chose G, and for all 7 modes I showed 3 octave versions of the scale. Each exercise (i.e. each 3 octave scale) in that lesson corresponds to a different key. But the key is not the root note, unless you are talking about the 3 octave G Major scale. For instance, the 3 octave G Mixolydian is in the key of C (G is the V note in C). So yes, you can move those 3 octave scales around, but you always have to pay attention as to which key a particular mode is contained in.
