Hi. At the moment I run an Ibanez humbucker equiped guitar into a mesa boogie triaxes. I run this into the cd input (power amp section) of my marshall avt 20 combo. I love the triaxes and really want to get into the world of racks... Cearly first I should buy a stand-alone power amp and a cab, but where do I go after this. i am no technical genius and all the diagrams I have seen of various racks look very complicated with wores coming in and out everywhere! And what about midi controllers? I would like to be able to run my rack straight into a mixing board and into a pa/recorder, or into a simple cab. Preferably, I would like to be able to do both of htese things at once.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

It all depends on what your budget is. You can get a good power amp for a couple hundred bucks, or an awesome one for $700 (i.e. like a VHT 2/50/2 on ebay). Same thing with cabs. A great 4x12 with celestions will run around $1000 or so. And are you looking to mic the cabinet? You need to be a little more clear on what you are trying to accomplish. But in any case, here is what I consider a basic rack setup:
