Where do you guys look for inspiration?
At school i've been put in this little group that are going to be taught how to write songs by some special visitors. And they want me to decide what my song will be about, and maybe even write down a few lyrics. But I have no idea what to do for a song.
Where do you guys usually get your ideas from? |

I don't write songs with lyrics, but I usually want to convey a mood with a song. If it is an upbeat mood, then I will be reaching for major and suspended chords, if it is somber, then I will go for minor chords, if it is jazzy, then it's going to be various 7th and extended chords. So basically, I just use my chord vocabulary to capture moods, and then I make sure my melody captures the mood as well.

Yeh I don't really have a problem making music with my guitar, but I find it extremely difficult to write lyrics. I have tried before but I didn't really like what came out of it.
The biggest problem of all is that I'm going to the session again tomorrow, and I still have no idea of what to write about... |

I've written one song. It had 2 verses, 4 lines - 2 of which were the same - and a one-line chorus. Still haven't put music to it yet though . I just took one phrase and worked around it. Worked pretty well! |

Well, it went quite well on Thursday.
My bandmates thought of an alright subject ; wanting to stay young. We came up with the chorus firstly, and then quite easily made 2 verses and a bridge. I would show it to you guys, but I've actually forgotten the lyrics... |

Yeh it's pretty good. It's these people from an acting group called Zip Theater, they usually go around schools performing plays, but they have some experience as musicians too, so for some reason they came to teach us about writing songs.
An added bonus is that every Thursday for a few more weeks or something i get to miss my English lesson . But the session starts at lunch time, it's not like I have anything to do at lunch time though. |

| Their should be a forum here where we all write a song together, each person could write one line and we could put them together. Someone start. |
