| I have been playing for about 8 months my first instrument i am learning. I know Pentatonic scales and the majors scale but i see in the lessons i see a much bigger major scale than i know i know the spanning of 4 frets versions similar to the pentatonic majors scale. I got barre chords and moveable chords down. But i am somewhat lost here not really knowing what to do. I am ultra confused with scales and how i see the exercizes here showing scales much bigger than i have seen and the different modes are somewhat confusing. help please |

Which exercises are you referring to? The most important to thing to keep in mind is that a scale is nothing more than a series of notes. Because the same note appears in several places on the guitar, it often causes confusion. Whenever you learn a scale shape, never think that that shape is somehow special. So when you learn scales on my site, keep in mind that there are a variety of ways to play them. I prefer symmetry, and so I prefer 3 note per string scales. And I also like to cover several octaves, so I also tend to play scales across the whole fretboard (like in my 3 octave scale exercises). In the cases of these 3 octave scales, it is still the same 7 notes, but then they simply repeat.

Those are just different positions of playing the scale. I think. |
